ABSTRACT
Patent foramen ovale (PFO) closure is superior to medical therapy alone prevent stroke recurrence in selected patients. Small cortical infarcts and large right left shunts seem identify patients who will benefit most from closure. We aimed study the correlation between size of PFO volume cerebral ischemic lesions young with cryptogenic stroke.PFO dimensions acute lesion 20 patients, aged<55 years, were analyzed transesophageal echocardiography brain magnetic resonance imaging, respectively. The association length PFO, maximum separation septum primum secundum, combination twos was explored.A direct statistically significant found secundum (p=0.047). Length showed a non-significant trend towards an inverse (p=0.603). Multiple linear regression analysis that dependent directly on inversely (regression coeff. -0,837; p= 0.057; 2,536, p=0.006, respectively). These data suggest even small might be pathogenetic case related if shunt large. If confirmed, detailed characteristics infarct could integrated new score select would take real advantage percutaneous
