Relation between the size of patent foramen ovale and the volume of acute cerebral ischemic lesion in young patients with cryptogenic ischemic stroke

Patent foramen ovale (PFO) closure is superior to medical therapy alone prevent stroke recurrence in selected patients. Small cortical infarcts and large right left shunts seem identify patients who will benefit most from closure.
