ABSTRACT
Abstract Purpose Epicardial adipose tissue (EAT) detected by computed tomography (CT) is associated with morbidity and mortality in patients COVID-19 other critical care patient cohorts, whereas their prognostic relevance trauma remains unclear. The present study explored associations four potential short-term outcomes patients. Methods All consecutive requiring emergency tracheal intubation mechanical ventilation before initial whole-body CT imaging at a level-1 center over 12-year period (2008–2019) were reanalyzed for this study. EAT was measured semiquantitatively analyzed regarding 24-hour 30-day using Cox proportional hazard models. In survivors, of intensive unit length stay (ICU LOS) duration linear regression analyses. Results Four hundred fifty-five (74.7% male) median age 49 years, injury severity score (ISS) 26 points analyzed. univariable analysis, index significantly ( p = 0.007, 0.013, respectively). After adjustment significant predictors age, body mass index, ISS, no confirmed 0.622, 0.903, subanalysis 353 ICU LOS analyses 0.031, 0.014, respectively), but not multivariable 0.81 0.46, Conclusion severely injured patients, which remained suggesting that its capability limited.
