ABSTRACT
We attempted to quantify periarticular bone atrophy from radiographs of the proximal phalanx in patients with rheumatoid arthritis (RA) by means National Institutes Health (NIH) Image computer program. The degree brightness or darkness four squares, each 20 × pixels, right third was measured using NIH Image, and mean value 400 pixels defined as brightness/darkness index (BDI). BDI used express volume. set at zero for an area complete 255 maximum brightness. coefficient variation our hospital 2.28%. 54 RA 146 normal volunteers. midpoint diaphysis 100 176 volunteers, while medial side end it 75 145, respectively. difference between volunteers greatest younger people. In some young patients, significantly low end, clearly demonstrating atrophy. Periarticular can be quantified
