ABSTRACT
This study was designed to evaluate prospectively magnetic resonance imaging for the prediction of circumferential resection margin in rectal cancer identify which patient could accurately assess before surgery and patients it not.During a 17-month period, preoperative assessment obtained 38 with mid or low cancer. The agreement pathologic examination analyzed.Overall, agreed histologic 28 (73 percent; kappa = 0.47). In all cases disagreement between pathology, overestimated involvement. For 11 cancer, well predicted by (kappa 1). 27 tumor, overall 63 percent 0.35). Agreement 22 0.03) 9 anterior 83 0.67) 18 posterior tumor. Univariate analysis revealed that only tumor risk factor overestimation imaging.Although remains best tool can overestimate involvement overtreating patients.
