ABSTRACT
Breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has high sensitivity in detecting invasive neoplasms. Controversy remains about its impact on the preoperative staging of breast cancer surgery. This study evaluated survival and surgical outcomes MRI conservative surgery.A phase III, randomized, open-label, single-center trial including female participants, stage 0-III disease, eligible for breast-conserving We compared role evaluation versus radiologic exam routine with mammography ultrasound candidates. The primary outcome was local relapse-free (LRFS), secondary were overall (OS), mastectomy rate, reoperation rate.524 randomized to group (n = 257) or control 267). analysis showed a 5.9-years LRFS 99.2% 98.9% (HR 0.72; 95% CI 0.12-4.28; p 0.7) an OS 95.3% 96.3% 1.37 0.59-3.19; 0.8). Surgical management changed 21 ipsilateral breasts group; (8.3%) had mastectomies one group. No difference found rates, 22 (8.7%) 23 (RR 1.002; 0.57-1.75; 0.85).Preoperative increased rates by 8%. use did not influence survival, rates.
