ABSTRACT
This qualitative descriptive study aims to explore (1) the extent of intergenerational continuity crime in families organized offenders, (2) mechanisms underlying this phenomenon and (3) discontinuity. The comprised a analysis available numeric information on 25 offenders based Amsterdam their 48 children at least 19 years age more in-depth police files, justice department files child protection service all family members 14 families. Additionally, interviews with employees involved organizations were conducted. In terms prevalence official record statistics, results show that large majority offenders' sons seem follow fathers' footsteps. is not case for daughters, as half them have criminal record, but primarily only one minor crime. Intergenerational transmission seems be facilitated by mediating risk factors, inadequate parenting skills mother, "famous" or violent reputation father, deviant social learning. If we want break chain violence, suggest an accumulation protective factors effective, particularly girls. For girls, supervision from also work quite well. boys, might need different approach prevent offending.
