ABSTRACT
Abstract Purpose To study the epidemiology of myopia in school-aged children Tianjin and relationship between visual acuity-based screening refraction-based screening. Method This school-based prospective cohort was performed on from 42 elementary schools 17 middle Tianjin, China. Totally 14,551 children, ages ranging 5 to 16 years, were included this study. Uncorrected acuity (UCVA) determined by logarithmic tumbling E chart. Non-cycloplegic photorefraction examined Spot (v2.1.4) photoscreener. The UCVA refractive error investigated for different age groups. Results overall prevalence at school based screen is 78.2%, ranged 10% 95% 16. most dramatic increase 6 (14.8%) 7 (38.5%). high 2.5%. found corresponding spherical equivalent refraction (SER) a manner normal distribution significantly affected age. When using estimate myopia, sensitivity specificity are 0.824 0.820, respectively. Age-dependent optimal cutoff points confident intervals such estimation reported. Conclusions Myopia heavily affecting preferable screening, whereas results need be interpreted an age-dependent estimation.
