ABSTRACT
Abstract This study exploited the different combinations of nutritional modes (autotrophic, mixotrophic and heterotrophic) green alga Scenedesmus obliquus in a two-stage cultivation process to remediate wastes as well maximise production high-protein algal biomass. The was first cultivated autotrophically Stage-one, using 0.5% digestate nutrient source natural light support growth; afterward, culture concentrated used Stage-two under modes. 2.5% anaerobic from food waste provide inorganic nutrients; sugar recovered confectionery manufacturer organic carbon mixo- hetero-trophic growth. In algae removed ammonium phosphate at 9.1 mg L −1 day 3.8 , respectively, yield approached carrying capacity 1 g dry weight per liter. Stage-two, population increased faster heterotrophic modes, reaching final concentration 7.2–10.5 than autotrophic mode. Ammonium were consumed about twice rate mode, 90–100% within 48–72 h. biomass had protein content 44% compared only 32% demonstrated that coupling growth S. can be both boost protein-rich biomass, which beneficial sustainable circular bioeconomy.
