ABSTRACT
This study examined the relationship between trait rumination and effectiveness of problem solving strategies as assessed by Means-Ends Problem-Solving Test (MEPS) in a nonclinical population. The present extended previous studies terms using two instructions MEPS: second-person, actual strategy instructions, which has been utilized on rumination, third-person, ideal-strategy is considered more suitable for assessing strategies. We also replicated association each dimension Social Inventory-Revised Short Version (SPSI-R:S). Japanese undergraduate students (N = 223) completed Beck Depression Inventory-Second Edition, Ruminative Responses Scale (RRS), MEPS, SPSI-R:S. One half sample MEPS with instructions. other participants results showed that neither total RRS score, nor its subscale scores were significantly correlated under either These findings taken together indicate populations, not related to strategies, but state while responding deteriorates quality correlations SPSI-R:S indicated general, brooding subcomponent particular are parts cognitive behavioral responses attempt avoid negative environmental private events.
