ABSTRACT
It is proposed that the three-dimensional problem of rolling in passes be simplified by solving it approximately by the finite-element method. A computer system that has been developed on this basis to model the deformation of metal in passes eliminates having to conduct multiple costly and time-consuming commercial trials and allows innovations to be introduced more quickly. The system can also be used to detect shape defects in the rolled product and determine the degree of deformation of the metal at the design stage, which allows the initial plans to approximate the final design as closely as possible.
