ABSTRACT
Abstract Harvested wood products (HWPs) store a significant amount of carbon while long-lived and wooden buildings can be among the most effective means for storage. Wood products’ lifetime extension appropriate waste management, recycling, reuse further contribute to achievement climate goals. In our study we projected under 10 different scenarios storage, dioxide methane emissions Hungarian HWP pool up 2050 in order find combination industry-related measures with highest change mitigation effect. For projection used country-specific HWP-RIAL model predict associated end-of-life management products. The main conclusion is that without additional would turn from sink source by 2047. To maintain continuous it essential implement including cascading product value chains, approaches circular bioeconomy. We individual are increasing half-life, recycling rate industrial production through increased assortments harvest. With these maximum average annual potential 1.5 Mt CO 2 equivalents could reached during 2022–2050 period.
