ABSTRACT
Abstract The high temperature corrosion at 650°C in the presence of NaCl atmospheric pressure AISI 304L, 309, 310S, 314 and 321 austenitic stainless steel was studied. specimens were cyclically heated furnace immersed a 3.5% aqueous solution after cooling for 15 min. After each cycle, change mass samples measured. corroded analysed by SEM /EDX, products XRD. chloride ions react with surface to form porous poorly adherent oxides metal chlorides. increase during first exposure cycles, spalling occurred. steels (AISI 314) showed less loss than conventional 304L). Surprisingly, similar low weight cyclic test as but detailed analysis exposed surfaces attack 304. NaCl, higher concentration Cr Ni definitely improves resistance under present conditions, certain addition Si is even more obvious. Graphical
