ABSTRACT
To assess health-related quality of life (HRQoL) across three renal replacement therapy modalities (preemptive transplant, non-preemptive and dialysis) in comparison with the healthy norm other chronic health conditions, to explore related patient factors. All prevalent end-stage disease (ESRD) patients aged 8–18 years who spent at least 6 months on their current treatment modality Netherlands, Belgium, part Germany were approached complete Pediatric Quality Life Inventory 4.0 (PedsQL™) questionnaire. We determined differences between groups PedsQL™ mean scores, proportion children an impaired HRQoL (≥ 1 SD lower than norm), problems individual items PedsQL™, effect time treatment. Linear regression models used determinants HRQoL. 192 out 278 (20% preemptive 58% 22% filled (response rate 69%). Independent modality, had significantly scores consequently higher proportions almost all domains compared conditions. Patients a transplant only reported physical modalities. Having comorbidities was most important determinant associated scores. Dialysis transplantation both have severe impact ESRD. Physicians should be aware this continuous burden. Furthermore, develop tailored interventions for ESRD, qualitative studies are needed gain more insight different
