ABSTRACT
A study was carried out on the oxidation of methyl phenyl sulfide by peroxoborate anions (B(OH)3(OOH)– and B(OH)2(OOH) 2 − ) generated from hydrogen peroxide and carbamide peroxysolvate in the presence of boric acid in water and in 2-propanol-water mixtures. The reactivity of the peroxoborate anions is much higher than the reactivity of H2O2. When water is replaced by aqueous alcohol mixtures, the reaction rate decreases.
