ABSTRACT
Friction and wear of LiF single crystals in unidirectional and bidirectional motion have been studied. The friction coefficient and wear are found to be higher under unidirectional motion. The experimental evidence of the dislocation structure around the wear track is presented. Friction and wear of LiF single crystals are determined both by the Bauschinger’s effect and by redistribution of the contact spots due to plowing and adhesion of wear particles to rubbing surface.
