ABSTRACT
Abstract The relation between recently established asymmetry in Asymmetric Detrended Fluctuation Analysis (ADFA) and Heart Rate Asymmetry is studied. It found that the ADFA asymmetric exponents are related both to overall variability its components at all studied time scales. We find scaling exponents, i.e., $$\alpha ^{+}<\alpha ^{-}$$ α + < - associated with variance-based runs-based types of asymmetry. This observation suggests physiological mechanisms similar, even though their origins mathematical methods very different.
