ABSTRACT
The background noise of response times is often overlooked in scientific inquiries cognitive performances. However, it becoming widely acknowledged psychology, medicine, physiology, physics, and beyond that temporal patterns variability constitute a rich source information. Here, we introduce two complexity measures (1/f scaling recurrence quantification analysis) employ as metrics reading fluency. These gauge the extent interdependence across, rather than within, components. In this study, investigated dyslexic non-dyslexic word-naming performance beginning readers observed these differentiate reliably between average correlate strongly with severity impairment. direction change introduced suggests developmental dyslexia resides from dynamical instabilities coordination among many components necessary to read, which could explain why score below on so distinct tasks modalities.
