ABSTRACT
One of the strongest predictors for osteoporosis is peak bone mass. Interventions to augment mass have yet be developed. β-Ecdysone (βEcd), a natural steroid-like compound produced by arthropods initiate metamorphosis, believed androgenic effects and so may used mass.The purpose this study was use both male female (1) gonadal-sufficient; (2) -insufficient mice investigate sex differences in terms development structure after βEcd administration.Two-month-old Swiss-Webster were randomized receive either vehicle or (0.5 mg/kg) 3 weeks. In separate experiment evaluate on hormone-deficient mice, gonadectomy performed (orchiectomy [ORX]) (ovariectomy [OVX]). Sham-operated ORX/OVX then treated weeks with βEcd. Primary endpoints trabecular strength.In volume 0.18±0.02 placebo-treated (PL) 0.23±0.02 βEcd-treated group (p<0.05 versus PL); 0.09±0.01 ORX PL) 0.12±0.01 ORX+βEcd group. Vertebral strength (maximum load) 43±2 PL 51±1 30±4 37±3 0.26±0.02 0.15±0.01 OVX 0.14±0.01 OVX+βEcd Maximum load vertebrae 45±2 48±4 group; 39±4 44±4 group.These findings suggest potential augmentation growing mice. It also partially prevent detrimental bone.Our results support nature products that are rich differ from other anabolic hormone treatments severe side such as serious cardiac complications. However, its humans remain determined.
