ABSTRACT
Subtraction of Ictal SPECT Co-registered to MRI (SISCOM) is an imaging technique used localize the epileptogenic focus in patients with intractable partial epilepsy. The aim this study was determine accuracy registration algorithms involved SISCOM analysis using FocusDET, a new user-friendly application. To end, Monte Carlo simulation employed generate realistic studies. Simulated sinograms were reconstructed by Filtered BackProjection (FBP) algorithm and Ordered Subsets Expectation Maximization (OSEM) reconstruction method that included compensation for all degradations. Registration errors SPECT-SPECT SPECT-MRI evaluated comparing theoretical actual transforms. Patient studies well-localized epilepsy also assessment. Global including less than 1.2 mm on average, exceeding voxel size (3.32 mm) no case. Although images OSEM led lower FBP, differences after or FBP 0.2 average. This indicates correction degradations does not play major role process, thereby facilitating application methodology centers where implemented These findings together those obtained clinicians from via MRI, interictal ictal video-EEG, show FocusDET robust performing clinical practice.
