Absolute dating of construction materials and petrological characterisation of mortars from the Santalla de Bóveda Monument (Lugo, Spain)

ABSTRACT
Abstract The construction materials of the Santalla de Bóveda Monument, one most studied buildings in Galicia (Spain), are analysed to date mortars and bricks walls vaults by combining three dating techniques: optically stimulated luminescence, radiocarbon thermoluminescence. Petrological characterisation themselves is carried out. Until now, paintings on vault have been interpreted as Roman, early Christian or Pre-Romanesque, depending interpretative framework used researcher who them. There also no consensus their functionality. A total 21 samples were collected, 39 datings made. results conclusive: original building dates from second half fourth century AD, beginning seventh upper floor tenth twelfth centuries. These make it necessary review history Galician architecture between Late Antiquity Early Medieval Ages.
