ABSTRACT
To investigate the effects of nutritional intervention with resistance training on skeletal muscle mass in elderly patients disabilities a convalescent rehabilitation setting. A randomized controlled trial. (UMIN Clinical Trials Registry ID: UMIN000006238). hospital. 39 decreased an inpatient convalescence unit. combination plus supplementation (R/N group) or alone (R group). The and were conducted essentially from patient's admission to discharge (2–6 months). evaluated at time end for (calf circumference [CC] as primary outcome, arm [AC]), hand grip strength (HG), Mini-Nutritional Assessment-Short Form (MNA®-SF) score, serum albumin level (Alb), body index (BMI), activities daily living (ADL) represented by Barthel Index (BI) score. Significant treatment seen CC, AC, BI, Alb R/N group compared R group. mean effect 3.2 (95%CI: 2.0–4.4) was 1.4 0.8–2.1) 11.2 0.5–21.8) 0.3 0.1–0.5) Alb. results this study suggest that added during may improve living.
