User-centered development of a smart phone mobile application delivering personalized real-time advice on sun protection

ABSTRACT
Smart phones are changing health communication for Americans. User-centered production of a mobile application sun protection is reported. Focus groups (n = 16 adults) provided input on the concept. Four rounds usability testing were conducted with 22 adults to develop interface. An iterative programming procedure moved from specification document final application, named Solar Cell. Adults desired variety advice, identified few barriers use and willing personal data. The Cell prototype was improved round 1 (seven 12 tasks completed) 2 (11 task interoperable across handsets networks. fully produced version revised during testing. rated as highly user friendly (mean 5.06). user-centered process that should help many manage safety.
