ABSTRACT
The oil from the burl wood sawdust of Tetraclinis articulata widely distributed in Morocco was obtained using hydro-distillation and analyzed by GC/MS. The main compounds in the oil were 3-tert-butyl-4-methoxyphenol (35.02 %), thymol (22.83 %) and cedrenol (13.60 %). The antibacterial activity of the oil was evaluated in vitro against 4 bacteria: Enterococcus faecalis, Escherichia coli, Klebsiella pneumoniae and Streptococcus D by Disc Diffusion, determining Minimum Inhibitory Concentration (MIC) and Minimum Bactericidal Concentration (MBC). The results presented here indicated that the essential oil from the burl wood sawdust of T. articulata had a good antibacterial activity against all tested bacteria of which E. faecalis was the most sensitive bacteria with 19 mm (inhibition zone diameter) and 5 µl/ml (MIC and MBC values).
