ABSTRACT
Symptoms of leaf blight and plant death were observed in seedlings of oil palm cv. Compacta x Ghana cultivated under a centre pivot irrigation system in the Brazilian Amazon region. The morphological characteristics, the sequence of ITS 5.8S DNA region, and Koch’s postulates confirmed Rhizoctonia solani AG 1-IA as the causal agent of leaf blight in oil palm. This is the first time that it has proven that this disease is caused by R. solani AG 1-IA in Brazil.
