ABSTRACT
Abstract Background Metformin treatment has a risk factor of reduced serum concentrations vitamin B12 and zinc, indicating its association with homocysteine metabolism. However, this remains to be clarified in patients type 2 diabetes (T2DM) accompanied by kidney dysfunction. Methods This cross-sectional study was conducted 149 T2DM (96 men, 53 women), including diabetic disease. Serum homocysteine, as well B12, folic acid, were measured outpatient patients. The subjects divided into two groups: without metformin administration (Met [ +], n = 62; Met −], 87). To explore the effect function, we also analyzed data after dividing all according function (chronic disease [CKD] group, 66; non-CKD 83). Results ( +) group exhibited significantly higher zinc levels lower than −) group. In positively associated levels, demonstrated multiple linear regression analysis adjusted for confounding factors β 0.287, p 0.021). no significant between observed CKD Moreover, there associations administration. Conclusions relationship differed based on presence or absence T2DM.
