ABSTRACT
The paper addresses the influence of crack on the cantilever shaft in a viscous medium on dynamic response during operation. In order to conduct this study, the dynamic response of a cracked cantilever rotor with attached mass at the free end is evaluated by using the influence coefficient method. The external fluid forces are analyzed by the Navier stokes’s equation. During this investigation, the presence of crack at both directions 55-direction (along the crack) and 44-direction (perpendicular to crack) in the shaft has been taken into consideration. The main variable parameters consider in this problem are viscosity of fluid and relative crack depth. The theoretical expression is derived and solved through the MATLAB in order to calculate vibration characteristics. The dynamic behavior obtained by applying this method is compared with that evaluated through experimental analysis. They are in good agreement.
