MIAMI: development and validation of a revised measure of academic misconduct

ABSTRACT
Academic misconduct remains a perennial concern in tertiary education around the globe. Research intended to explain this phenomenon has been conducted for almost 100 years. One of most cited researchers is Donald McCabe, whose work was rooted survey instrument he developed late 1980s and distributed 100,000 + students over following two decades. Recognizing need continue understand academic 21st century context, present study updated validated original McCabe as an inventory behaviors, derived psychometrically sound factors same enable examine predictors these behaviors. Specifically, our (named MIAMI: McCabe/ICAI Misconduct Inventory) shown have construct validity through associations with (n = 2329): integrity climate, peer norms, moral attitudes, achievement goal structures. The will facilitate further research that advance understanding test efficacy interventions designed promote integrity.
