ABSTRACT
Abstract Background Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is a major public health problem affecting both current and future generations. Development of to the commonly available antibiotics has been directly linked their irrational use. The World Health Organization (WHO) clearly stated on Global Strategy AMR, judicious antibiotic use as well adequate knowledge awareness about important tools in curbing existing problem. Therefore, this study aimed explore level among accredited drug dispensing outlet (ADDO) dispensers factors contributing Tanzanian pediatric patients. Methods A qualitative employing focused group discussions was conducted 6–10 ADDO with at least 6 months experience 14 regions between July August 2020. Thematic analysis used analyze data. Results Findings from indicate that have antimicrobial resistance. Participants were aware general meaning antimicrobials. They antimicrobials are for treating infections caused by microbes such bacteria, fungi, viruses. knew AMR increases related costs increasing burden not an outcome specific people care providers or patients, rather contribution many bring change microorganism behavior. Despite knowledge, participants felt most private facilities profit-oriented; they practice polypharmacy maximize profit than focusing providing quality services. revealed dose shortage after symptomatic relief strongly contributes AMR. Lastly, expressed continuous medical education community patients necessary efforts fight against Conclusions To mitigate our society, integrated interventions must include communities, ADDOs first point contact other healthcare providers. Periodic refresher training emphasis proper practices crucial help transform into action. Responsible authorities should ensure adhere regulations.
