Diagnostic accuracy of Alvarado scoring system relative to histopathological diagnosis for acute appendicitis: A retrospective cohort study

ABSTRACT
Acute appendicitis (AA) is a surgical emergency that requires prompt diagnosis and suitable management. It may lead to complications resulting in mortality. To evaluate the diagnostic accuracy of Alvarado scoring system (ASS) for acute concerning histopathological data.About 120 patients were selected this study consisting 96 males 24 females age between 20 60. calculated each patient after collecting data about demographics, laboratory findings, clinical examination. Then, we compared it with taking as gold standard. Sensitivity, specificity, positive predictive value (PPV), negative (NPV) calculated. SPSS version was used analyzing included our study. The male female ratio 3:1. Sensitivity specificity 83.3% 41% respectively. While PPV NPV 85% appendectomy rate 21%. area under curve receiving operating characteristics 0.628.ASS useful tool regarding sensitivity value, especially developing countries. cheap, reliable, can be easily applied.
