ABSTRACT
Ensuring equitable access to novel treatment modalities has been an ongoing challenge throughout the SARS-CoV-2 pandemic. By implementing a monoclonal antibody (MAB) distribution plan in emergency department (ED), our health system aimed improve therapeutic more diverse patient populations and limit potential barriers referral-based outpatient infusion centers (OIC) offering same treatment. Our study attempts highlight unique role ED can play of therapeutics by evaluating association between demographics MAB location. Retrospective cohort all COVID-19 infected patients who received at one six different EDs or four OICs within single 23-hospital care December 28, 2020 May 12, 2021. Patients were grouped location (ED versus OIC). The group was defined as treat-and-release presenting unscheduled during their visit. OIC referred for scheduled appointment receive infusion. A blinded abstractor gathered specific demographic data, priori, from electronic medical record. We compared race, ethnicity, sex, socioeconomic status (SES) score, age two groups. Chi-square tests performed assess associations categorical variables T-Tests used compare continuous locations. 5,165 eligible inclusion, which 195 (4%) infusions 4,970 (96%) OIC. likely be female (114/195 [58%] 2,531/4,970 [51%], p<0.05), Black (22/188 [12%] 261/4,898 [5%], p<0.001), less White (116/188 [62%] 3,621/4,898 [74%], p<0.001) when patients. There no significant following characteristics comparing mean years (62 62, p=0.827), Hispanic Latinx ethnicity (20/188 [11%] 377/4730 [8%], p=0.188), SES score (-18,900 -19,100, p=0.695) Racial ethnic comparisons excluded 79 247 patients, respectively, due unavailable data. Patient sex race are associated with Compared Black.
