ABSTRACT
there is insufficient data regarding bacterial infections in patients with cirrhosis to support recommendations for empiric antibiotic treatments, particularly Latin America. This study aimed evaluate infection's clinical impact and microbiological characteristics, intending serve as a platform revise current practices.multicenter prospective cohort of from Argentina Uruguay. Patient infection-related information were collected, focusing on microbiology, susceptibility patterns, outcomes.472 included. Spontaneous urinary tract (UTIs) registered 187 (39.6%) 116 (24.6%) patients, respectively, representing the most common infections. Of 256 culture-positive infections, 103 (40.2%) caused by multidrug-resistant organisms (reaching 50% UTI), 181 (70.7%) received adequate initial treatment. The coverage cefepime ceftriaxone was over 70% empirical treatment community-acquired spontaneous but ceftazidime´s only 40%. For all UTI cases healthcare-associated or nosocomial lower-spectrum antibiotics that covered at least isolations imipenem meropenem. During hospitalization, second infection diagnosed 9.8% 23.9% required one organ support, 19.5% died.short-term mortality very high, high percentage organisms, UTIs. provided might adapt recommendations, related Clinical Trials (NCT03919032).
