ABSTRACT
Abstract Efficient removal of CO species binding with Pt active sites during methanol oxidation reaction (MOR) is vital for an excellent electrocatalyst. In this paper, well-controlled Ru@Pt/C-TiO2 with much weakened CO adsorption was prepared as MOR electrocatalyst. The nanostructure shows enhanced electroactivity in MOR with peak current density of 1.08 mA/cm2, significantly larger than that of Ru@Pt/C (0.76 mA/cm2), Pt/C-TiO2 (0.66 mA/cm2) and Pt/C (0.34 mA/cm2). The stability and CO tolerance of Ru@Pt/C-TiO2 are also superior to that of Ru@Pt/C, Pt/C-TiO2 and Pt/C. This enhanced MOR performance is ascribed to bifunctional mechanism derived from TiO2 and strong electronic interaction between Pt and Ru, C-TiO2, weakening binding energy of CO adsorbed on Pt.
