ABSTRACT
The role of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) infection in carotid atherosclerosis remains inconsistent and sometimes controversial. We aimed to determine whether H. is associated with atherosclerotic plaques a large number Chinese adults. recruited 108,210 adults who participated standard medical screening both ultrasonic examination 13C-urea breath test for H.pylori from two cohorts. A total 93,915 were included the analysis after excluding participants cardiovascular disease (CVD) at baseline. Hazard ratio (HR) developing by was analyzed using Cox proportional hazard model, sociodemographic clinical factors adjusted. Findings across cohorts pooled meta-analyses. 11,208 (13.13%) occurred median follow-up 20 months MN cohort, while 1279 (14.95%) 24 MJ cohort. Compare without infection, more likely occur plaques. After adjusting age, sex, annual personal income, body mass index, blood pressure, glucose, triglycerides, low-density lipoprotein cholesterol, high-density high-sensitivity C-reactive protein, estimated glomerular filtration rate, HR 1.04 (95%CI: 1.01–1.08). further education level, marital status, smoking alcohol drinking physical activity, family history CVD, changed minimally. Additional sensitivity analyses confirmed robustness results. Significant interactions or chronic inflammation not observed this research. plaque onset previous CVD. These data suggested that prevention may reduce burden atherosclerosis.
