ABSTRACT
Cancer, namely breast and prostate cancers, is the leading cause of death in many developed countries. Controlled drug delivery systems are key for development new cancer treatment strategies, to improve effectiveness chemotherapy tackle off-target effects. In here, we a biomaterials-based wireless electrostimulation system with potential controlled on-demand release anti-cancer drugs. The composed curcumin-loaded poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) nanoparticles (CUR/PEDOT NPs), encapsulated inside coaxial poly(glycerol sebacate)/poly(caprolactone) (PGS/PCL) electrospun fibers. First, show that PGS/PCL nanofibers biodegradable, which allows NPs closer tumoral region, have good mechanical properties, allowing prolonged storage PEDOT before their gradual release. Next, demonstrate PEDOT/CUR can CUR (65 % after applying −1.5 V 180 s). Finally, platform using this NP/fiber was set up promote vitro human cell death. We found decrease 67 viability. Overall, our results has effectively deliver highly way models. also drug-loaded treatment, while safe voltages body. believe work stepping stone design biomaterial-based future smarter more effective therapy.
