ABSTRACT
The transformation of fermentable sugars provided from lignocellulosic wastes into biofuels or bioproducts is a key point at second-generation biorefineries. Spent sulfite liquor xylose-rich hydrolysate constituting the main residue mills producing dissolving cellulose. Due to presence inhibitors in spent liquor, most promising valorization options require detoxification before bioconversion. In this work, multi criteria analysis was implemented select techno-economic and socio-environmental feasible alternatives that can be adapted wide variety fermenting scenarios. Total removal, phenolics acetic acid lignosulfonates total sugar losses, fixed capital invested, manufacturing costs, waste toxicity, social acceptance, employment were chosen as relevant criteria. maximum allowable concentration undesirable cannot established with general character, thereby decision-making tools result efficient solutions. From technical viewpoint best solution anionic resins score 0.68; economical alternative overliming 0.76; finally, perspective, reached highest 0.78. addition, three biorefinery models proposed. Based on multi-criteria based inhibitor's affecting fermentation yields productivity, (1) for polyhydroxyalkanoate production; (2) activated carbon ethanol biorefinery; (3) xylitol biorefinery.
