Predictors of competency on delivery care service among final year undergraduate midwifery students in higher education institutions of Ethiopia, 2019: A cross sectional study

ABSTRACT
BackgroundCompetence is the documentation of an acceptable level performance, through a process structured assessment. Focusing on generating highly competent midwives with essential skills, more specifically childbirth care services helps to improve maternal and newborn health outcomes. This study was aimed assess determinants competency delivery among newly graduated bachelor midwifery students in Amhara regional state Higher Education Institutions, Ethiopia, 2019.MethodInstitution-based cross-sectional conducted. A total 420 participants were included study. structured, pretested self-administered questionnaire used collect data. stratified random sampling technique employed select participants. The data entered into Epi info version 7.0 then exported SPSS 20.0 for analysis. Both bivariate multivariable logistic regression models fitted. Crude Adjusted Odds ratio 95% confidence interval has been computed variables p-value < 0.05 considered statistically significant.ResultThe overall proportion 28.8%. Midwives' choice profession as their first field [AOR: 3.2, 95%CI; (1.6–6.5)], teachers who allocate enough time at clinical practice sites 2.5, (1.5–4.2)], absence practitioners from other disciplines 2.4, (1.4–4.1)], significantly associated.ConclusionThe found be low. Insuring regular mentoring supervision, staying practical avoiding attachment crowded by discipline are strongly recommended.
