ABSTRACT
The oriental armyworm, Mythimna separata, is known for its long-distance seasonal migration and environment-dependent phase polymorphisms. Here, we present a chromosome-level genome reference integrate multi-omics, functional genetics, behavioral assays to explore the genetic bases of hallmark traits M. separata migration. Gene family comparisons show expansion gustatory receptor genes in this cereal crop pest. Functional investigation magnetoreception-related associated flight behaviors suggest that may use geomagnetic field guide orientation nocturnal flight. Comparative transcriptome characterizes suite confer observed plasticity between phases, including involved protein processing, hormone regulation, dopamine metabolism. We further report molecular signatures underlie dynamic regulation migratory syndrome coordinating reproduction Our study yields insights into developmental moths advances our understanding insect pests.
