ABSTRACT
Increasing plant density can increase cereal crop yields. However, the physiological and anatomical mechanisms of grain yield at high densities in maize-based intercropping systems are not well understood. A two-year field experiment was conducted 2018 2019 to investigate yield, photosynthetic characteristics, stomatal traits, leaf anatomy maize plants an system with densities. Two cropping patterns (monocropping intercropping) three (D1, 78,000 ha−1; D2, 103,500 D3, 129,000 ha−1) were arranged a randomized block design. significantly increased gave significant advantage over monocropping under same density. Intercropping combined area SPAD value maize, increasing photosynthesis rates after harvest pea. At twelfth stage, intercrops medium by respectively 10.5% 18.4% relative their values for corresponding monocrops. Although thickness reduced density, chloroplast number grana lamella higher than different These positive changes resulted photosynthesis, suggesting basis yield.
