ABSTRACT
This paper presents the development and industrial manufacturing of a pultruded high-performance carbon fibre (CF) reinforced polymer (CFRP) composite strip using bio-based unsaturated polyester (UP) resin containing more than 50% its weight derived from renewable raw materials. The CF/UP strengthening strip, comprising unidirectional CF strands, was successfully produced mechanical thermomechanical behaviours were assessed, compared to an equivalent epoxy-vinyl ester (CF/VE) with conventional petroleum-based same architecture. presented 2095 MPa, 167 GPa, 1.4% tensile strength, modulus elasticity, strain at failure, respectively. These figures met or exceeded properties CF/VE counterpart tested under conditions. Furthermore, glass transition temperature 78 °C (defined onset storage decay), enabling maximum service ∼60 °C, which will not likely be in most climates, highlighting potential for structural applications, offering key advantage terms sustainability.
