ABSTRACT
The aim of this work is to review the literature hygrothermal ageing in composite structures, focusing on effects moisture absorption mechanical properties, damage behavior and degradation mechanisms responsible for changes performance. Potential causes that can lead failures are detected main variables influence taken into account: these include surrounding environment climate conditions, which appear be determinant. Secondly, a case study analysis previous accidents involving aircraft structures damaged by presented. This reveals some components, such as sandwich panels adhesive-bonded-joints, particularly affected ageing, thus require detailed assessment terms humidity deterioration. Further insights industrial applications wind tidal turbine, showcased crucial issues highlighted. Moreover bio-composites behaviour harsh environments analyzed, showing drawbacks advantages.
