ABSTRACT
Rubberised cementitious material has gained significant attention within the civil engineering community. However, gap and voids between rubber particles cement gel remain challenge. To tackle these issues, silica fume (SF) graphene nanoplatelets (GnPs) were used to enhance microstructure of rubberised mortar at micro nano scale levels. Silica was added 20% weight, while, inoculation GnPs varied from 0.02% 0.6% as replacement powder ranged 2% 8% sand (by volume). The compressive (CS), flexural (FS), tensile (TS), ultrasonic pulse velocity (UPV), water absorption (WA) porosity (P) proposed evaluated age 28 days. experimental predicted outcome showed that incorporating SF imparted superior properties compared control mixture for all percentage. For instance, when content 5% 0.03%, CS, FS, TS, UPV, WA P 45.51 MPA, 5.41 MPa, 3.13 3.89 km/s, 5.23% 7.22% without (38.3 4.1 2.31 3.65 6.51% 7.28%), respectively. FESEM also confirmed did not only act a filler but served an impermeable barrier continued crack propagation. It can be concluded inclusion in cement-based is considered sustainable choice which it enhances its microstructure, specifically interfacial transition zone (ITZ).
