ABSTRACT
Use of ultrasound (US) to facilitate vascular access has increased compared landmark-based procedures despite ergonomic challenges and need for extrapolation 2-dimensional images understand needle position. The MantUS™ system (Sentiar, Inc.,) uses a mixed reality (MxR) interface display US integrate real-time tracking. The purpose this prospective preclinical study was evaluate the feasibility usability MantUS in simulated environment.Participants were recruited from pediatric cardiology critical care. Access obtained 2 training models: femoral model head neck total 4 sites under conditions-conventional MantUS. Participants randomized order completion. Videos obtained, quality including time required, repositions, number attempts, angle approach quantified.Use resulted an overall reduction repositions (P = .03) improvement as measured by distance <.0001) elevation .006). These findings even more evident right vein (RFV) site, which anatomic variant with deeper oblique course. faster .04), fewer both attempts .02), conventional US. Postparticipant survey showed high levels (87%) belief that may decrease adverse outcomes (73%) failed (83%).Use improved among all comers, access. This notable (RFV). readily benefited users providing spatial understanding. Further development will focus on improving user experience, larger clinical usage in-human studies.
