ABSTRACT
We assess what drives the lower valuation of nature protection on other side border in two European transboundary areas, Białowieża Forest (Poland and Belarus), Fulufjället (Norway Sweden). Applying hybrid choice modelling, we account for people's attitudes when eliciting their preferences extensions protected areas. examine impact a so-called 'home bias' effect appearing public stated towards areas; that is inclination preferring domestic part. find concerning intention visiting foreign part area, appreciation justice altruism are main systematic mitigators home bias. Suspicious attitude neighbouring country, anticipation unilateral provision, manifestations 'patriotism' apply as bias drivers only to limited degree. Facilitating visits by enhancing cross-border access can be expected shift peoples' co-operation.
