ABSTRACT
There is a wide variation across studies in the reported prevalence of nonalcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD) and steatohepatitis (NASH). A targeted literature review was conducted to understand NALFD NASH general population specific sub-populations as well identify risk factors associated with NASH. Embase Medline databases (2003–July 2018, English language) relevant conferences were searched observational meta-analysis reporting outcomes interest. Small cohort (<150 patients) wherein diagnosis did not consider differentiation between alcoholic non-alcoholic conditions excluded. total 32 included. Prevalence NAFLD among ranged from 11.2% 37.2% reviewed studies. Similar ranges shown frequency biopsy-confirmed patients ranging 15.9% 68.3%. The type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) 54% 65.26%, respectively. Frequency 12.6% 30.4% obese patients. rate progression age, ethnicity, genetics, presence comorbidities (e.g. obesity, T2DM, hypertension). highlighted significant variability globally, further emphasizing need achieve consensus terminology, definition, diagnostic methods determine actual
