ABSTRACT
Here we present a method to combine half-hourly publicly available electrical generation and interconnector operational data for Great Britain create timeseries that approximates its demand. We term the calculated demand 'ESPENI' is an acronym Elexon Sum Plus Embedded Net Imports. The adds value original by combining both transmission distribution into single dataset adding ISO 8601 compatible datetimes increase interoperability with other timeseries. Data cleansing undertaken visually flagging errors then using simple linear interpolation impute values replace flagged points. Publishing allows it be further enhanced or adapted considered critiqued wider community. In addition, published raw cleaned valuable resource saves researchers considerable time in repeating steps presented prepare analysis. provide public record of decarbonisation Britain's system since late 2008, widely seen as example rapid away from fossil fuel lower carbon sources.
