ABSTRACT
Natural zeolites have widely been applied in the removal of contaminants from water while Mg/Al layered double hydroxide (LDH) zeolite (Mg/Al LDH-zeolite) composite is a relatively new material with promising features wastewater treatment. This study evaluated performance combined between natural and LDH adsorption ammonium aqueous solutions. The characterization data composite, including BET, SEM, TEM, XRD, EDX, FTIR show superior traits for higher heterogeneity compared to conventional zeolites. Batch experiments demonstrated effects parameters pH, reaction time, temperature initial concentration onto NH4+ by zeolite. optimal conditions were at solution pH 8.0, time 60 min, an 40 mg/L. increased when grew, suggesting process was endothermic nature maximum capacity LDH-zeolite 17.81 mg/g corresponding efficiency 89.03%. Kinetics fit well pseudo second order Elovich models. While isotherms described better Sips model. Characterization, kinetic, isothermal studies suggest main mechanisms involved ion exchange, surface complexation π-cation interaction.
