ABSTRACT
This paper presents the pre-conceptual design activities conducted for European DEMO divertor, focusing on cassette and Plasma Facing Components (PFC) integration. Following systems engineering principles, a systematic method, Iterative Participative Axiomatic Design Process (IPADeP), has been adopted. Basing Design, IPADeP supports early conceptual of complex systems. The work moved from geometrical interface constraints imposed by 2015 configuration model. Then, since different materials will be used PFCs, divertor geometry developed taking into account cooling parameters Eurofer steel integration PFCs system. Accordingly, process led to double wall structure with internal reinforcing ribs withstand coolant pressure three kinds piping schemes dual circuits. These solutions differs in feeding pipes layouts target manifold protection they have proposed evaluated considering heat flux issues, shielding problems, requirements blanket vacuum vessel remote maintenance needs. A parametric shell model perform first structural analyses body against pressure. Taking advantages surface modelling its linkage Finite Element (FE) code, layout thickness optimized, at same time strength needed maximum stiffness required preloading locking
