Design of a position monitoring system for the ITER radial neutron camera

ABSTRACT
The Radial Neutron Camera (RNC) is an ITER diagnostic system devoted to the radial measurement of plasma neutron emissivity during operation. In particular, core measurements will be performed using 48 detectors located in Ex-Port RNC subsystem and viewing through 16 lines-of-sight (LOS). Since discrepancies concerning position LOS related optical path can occur installation operation, a Position Monitoring System (PMS) foreseen evaluate misalignment provide correction tool for neutrons count rate. During design PMS RNC, optic fiber-based displacement sensors have been identified as best solution measure displacements from reference positions along radial, vertical toroidal directions. Potential issues that could arise operation such evaluated; MCNP calculations determine radiation level at components. Finally, mechanical tests carried out ENEA performance sensors: results indicate compliance with specifications provided by producer requirements.
