ABSTRACT
This study highlights the mechanisms of Pb(II)-phycoremediation using Pb(II) tolerant strain Scenedesmus obliquus. First, monitoring cell growth kinetics in control and Pb(II)-doped medium revealed significant inhibition, while analyses through flow cytometry Zetasizer no difference viability size. Residual weights Pb(II)-loaded cells assessed by thermogravimetric analysis were 31.34% 57.8%, respectively, indicating uptake into S. obliquus cells. Next, use chemical extraction to distinguish between intracellular extracellular indicated involvement both biosorption (85.5%) bioaccumulation (14.5%) mechanisms. Biosorption interaction ions wall was confirmed SEM-EDX, FTIR, zeta potential, zero-charge pH, contact angle analyses. Besides, biochemical characterization that induces increases carotenoids lipids content, it decreases chlorophyll, carbohydrates, proteins content. Finally, metabolomic an increase relative abundance fatty acid methyl esters, alkanes, aromatic compounds, sterols. However, alkenes monounsaturated acids decreased. Such metabolic adjustment may represent adaptive strategy prevents high Pb(II)-bioaccumulation cellular compartments.
