ABSTRACT
Using saliva samples would facilitate sample collection, diagnostic feasibility, and mass screening of SARS-CoV-2. We tested two rapid antigen (RAD) immunochromatographic tests designed for detection SARS-CoV-2 in saliva: Rapid Response™ COVID-19 Antigen Test Cassette oral fluids DIAGNOS™ Saliva Test. Evaluation limit was performed with purified nucleocapsid protein live virus. Sensitivity specificity were further evaluated reverse transcription quantitative PCR (RT-qPCR) positive negative from hospitalized individuals (n = 39) healthcare workers 20). DIAGNOS showed higher sensitivity than Response both The the test comparable Abbott Panbio™ Ag nasopharyngeal samples. detected nine (50.0%) seven (38.9%), respectively, 18 RT-qPCR All 41) tests. Only one contained infectious virus as determined by cell culture also using RADs. results show that may be an important easy-to-use RAD complement to detect individuals, but validation a larger set is warranted.
